A Pupdate

Things have seriously moved into high gear around here. Not only is it the end of the year, and all the craziness that surrounds it, but I also have a bunch of other things happening all at once… in the next two months, we have multiple doctor’s appointments, my soon-to-be sister-in-law’s bridal shower, a bunch of summer camp stuff, an 80th birthday party for my father-in-law… I’m sure I’m missing other stuff. On top of it all, I have Abbey’s oncologist consultation coming up.

Yep, it was cancer. The only bright side is that it was a grade 1 sarcoma, which means it hasn’t spread yet. They didn’t get the entire mass, because of how spider-webby it was, so there is a chance it will grow back, hence the possibility of needing additional cancer intervention. The question then becomes, is it worth it? She’s 13 and a half. She’s doing great as far as lifestyle – she still jumps up and off of furniture like a puppy, walks about an hour a day, is playful and happy… Will the treatment be worse on her than letting it take it’s course? I’ve been through cancer treatments with both of my parents, and it isn’t pretty. I’ve read without treatment, this grade of sarcoma still has a life expectancy of 2-4 years without treatment – and we’ve already removed most of the mass. It sucks being in a position to make the wrong decision for someone/somepup you love and want the best for.

BUT, for now, she’s doing beautifully, and we are enjoying every moment. (Except for her getting food poisoning from {we think} tainted FreshPet food. Vomiting for two days, diarrhea for almost a week. Luckily she’s better now and I think we’re stuck feeding her boiled chicken, rice, and pumpkin for the rest of her life.)

Give your furry family member an extra hug, and I’ll check back in when we’ve had the appointment. Have a great weekend!
